Brookgreen Gardens

Went on a research mission to Brookgreen Gardens when I was in South Carolina. It's a sculpture park as well as a nature reserve just outside of Myrtle Beach. The classical sculptures have such a great composition. Even though its not the type of work I expect I will often do, it's a great reference. These sculptors really understand proportion and composition.

The nature and wildlife here is unbelievable. Everything was just starting to bloom as I got there, which made the gardens and trees just as beautiful as the artwork.

BABA Forge-In at Bringsty Forge

Attended my first BABA forge-in today at Adrian's forge: Bringsty Forge. It was essentially the same as an ABANA forge-in except everyone talks funny. Oh, wait and they all camp out for two days and get wasted! Sadly, I couldn't take part in the festivities due to the fact that I fly out on the morrow headed for the US of A. 

The contest was titled "metal for the mantlepiece". Sam and I tore apart some 4" box section with a fuller and sledge to make an ash tray. I somehow forgot to actually photograph it by itself, but it can be seen in some of the pictures below. Its the one that looks like a wet cardboard box.

Studio space set up for assessment

Sorry about the poor photography. Very poor lighting that morning and had the camera on the wrong settings. 

The little people have nothing to do with the module whatsoever but I thought they looked good there, so I left them.

The spear is actually very carefully notched to accept the fork on either side to secure it. They could use a little more work to have a really snug fit, but they still hold.

Copper speed study complete

Another study into movement. This time I am looking at pure velocity. It's polished copper flats with brass rivets. Let me know what you think. Does it look fast?
