Great Videos From Francisco Gazitua

All the videos in the "videos" section are worth watching for anyone who interacts with public art. Barca Volante Parts 1 and 2 embody what sculpture is for in my opinion. Mr. Gazitua has such a calm and sincere attitude, and that seems to come through in his work somehow. I doubt he knows what an "artist blacksmith" is. Wood, stone, steel, whatever; he is an artist through and through. He owns his material as well as any specialist.

Another new sample with interesting rivet treatment

Moving deeper into the idea of creating contours within joined bar, this time with halving joints. I prefer the look of the halving joints, however they present their own set of problems when you push and pull them out of  their comfort zone.

These joints stretched so much when the piece was dished, that they came apart. However, within that problem lied an opportunity because that led to the ball punch at the end of the rivet to secure it back together. The ball punch combined with the spread around the rivet head creates a very interesting joint in my opinion.

Some new samples

In the early stages of my collections and fascinations brief at this point and just going for some literal translation of my interests into metal. Here is my interpretation of tire tread from an old WWII style bike. 

This piece led to more exploration of creating contours within the confines of joined components. After I made this sample, I started looking at wire frame modeling and the possibilities of this effect on larger scales following more complex contours. This is evident in the following samples.

Perhaps it's time to take my photography more seriously...

This should do the trick! It's pretty much the greatest camera ever. Its got like 400 pixels and 20 gigs of RAM. Plus, its a V8, so its got more than enough power to get the job done. It even came with that other extra long lens for police stakeouts.

Seriously though, I'm going to go get a book and learn all about it and check back soon with all sorts of great shots.  

A shot I took with the telephoto lens at 300mm. Those sheep were really fucking far away! Not bad considering I have no idea how to use this thing yet. It was just on AUTO mode since I haven't figured out the controls just yet.
